Indra Renewable Technologies stands at the forefront of cleantech innovation, primarily focusing on the electrification of the transportation sector. Renowned for its intelligent electric vehicle charging equipment and grid management solutions, Indra’s offerings are pivotal in both residential and commercial spheres. The company boasts ownership of the world’s first fully certified, residential, single-phase, bidirectional vehicle-to-grid charger, marking a significant milestone with over 1,000 units manufactured to date.
When Indra approached us, they were gearing up for a significant capital fundraising endeavor, aiming to further cement their position in the e-mobility, manufacturing, SaaS, and infrastructure sectors. Our engagement with Indra encompassed a suite of services including Capital Fundraising, Operating Model Optimisation, Strategic Value Proposition enhancement, and Financial Modelling. The journey we embarked on with Indra was one of meticulous transformation and strategic realignment.
Initially, our pre-transaction due diligence unearthed several critical issues that posed significant risks to Indra’s capital raising objectives. A notable concern was the heavy reliance on R&D services for a large portion of revenue, which, while indicative of Indra’s commitment to innovation, presented a skewed revenue model to potential investors. Furthermore, the absence of a distinct value proposition left Indra vulnerable in a market teeming with competitors. Complicating matters were two problematic share issues, muddling the company’s equity structure.
Addressing these challenges head-on, we redefined Indra’s strategic value proposition, delineating their unique capabilities and innovations in a market flooded with generic solutions. Our financial experts restructured revenue streams, delineating R&D from core product offerings to present a more sustainable and scalable business model to investors. The share issues were meticulously resolved, ensuring a clean and appealing equity structure.
However, as we neared the finish line, the unexpected upheaval caused by Covid-19 led our initial investor group to withdraw their offer, a testament to the pandemic’s pervasive impact on international supply chains and investor confidence. This setback, however, was not the end but a pivot point. Leveraging our extensive network and Indra’s newly polished investment profile, we swiftly identified two new strategic investors. The culmination of our collaborative efforts was not just the salvaging of the deal but its enhancement, doubling the original investment offer to C$10 million.
The journey with Indra Renewable Technologies is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and the transformative power of strategic repositioning. It underscores the potential within challenges and the value of a comprehensive, responsive approach to service provision. As Indra continues to innovate and lead in cleantech, the successful capital raise marks just the beginning of its accelerated growth and sustained impact in the renewable energy sector.
